6th Carpathain Convention Conference of the parties

The 6th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Carpathian Convention was held on 25 November 2020. The first time the event took place in an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Secretariat of the Convention expressed its appreciations, especially to Hungary as a previous Presidency as well as to the newly appointed Polish Presidency for the great communication and guidance during Conference preparations.

Active contribution and strong support to cooperation on the protection and sustainable development of the Carpathians and other mountain regions worldwide of Carpathian Convention Observers and Stakeholders is also appreciated.

Sustainable tourism decisions

There are 7 COP6 decissions regarding sustainable toursim were made:

  • Noting the limited progress in the implementation of the Protocol on Sustainable Tourism, invites the Parties, the WG Tourism, the Carpathian Sustainable Tourism Platform (CSTP) and the Secretariat to consider and propose next steps allowing for revitalization of the WG Tourism activities;
  • Invites CSTP to share information on its activities with the WG Tourism and the Secretariat on a regular basis and requests that the CSTP reports become an integral part of the overall Carpathian Convention Progress Report in the future;
  • Invites the relevant actors to proceed with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Secretariat and: CSTP Centre Poland, CSTP Centre Romania, CSTP Centre Ukraine, if all formal requirements are met, at the earliest convenience, and in this respect encourages the Secretariat and CSTP to organize a virtual meeting between involved actors to discuss further steps of cooperation;
  • Thanks the CSTP Center Romania for coordinating the activities of the CSTP in 2017 – 2020 and invites the CSTP Center Poland to take the coordinating role for the next implementation period 2021 – 2023 during the Polish Presidency of the Carpathian Convention;
  • Welcomes the proposal of Romania, or other Parties, to organize the next meeting of the WG Tourism and requests the Secretariat to facilitate its organization in due course;
  • Notes the implementation of the “Cooperation of V4+ rural tourism actors through social and digital innovation project” under the Visegrad Fund, the “Etno Carpathia” project under the cross-border Interreg Poland-Slovakia Programme and the project “Thematic Trail Trigger” under the Interreg Europe Programme, and encourages the CSTP to share the results of the projects;
  • Takes note of the activities of the Centralparks project, especially the “Strategy for local sustainable tourism development based on natural and cultural heritage of the Carpathians”.
